8 Elevator Safety Tips: Things You Should Never Do
There are eight important rules to follow in elevators. Not only should you remember them, but you should also teach them to your children.
-
Don’t lean on the elevator door
Danger: The elevator door relies on a safety locking mechanism called the “door locking hook.” If an external force disengages the hook, the door could open while the elevator is moving. -
Don’t rush in as soon as the door opens
Danger: When the door opens, there’s a risk of falling into the elevator shaft. -
Don’t overload the elevator
Danger: Every elevator has a specific weight limit. Overloading can prevent the door from closing properly. In extreme cases, it can cause the cable to slip, and the elevator could fall. -
Don’t try to exit the elevator by yourself when trapped
Danger: If you’re stuck in the elevator, prying or forcing the doors open can lead to accidents. -
Don’t sit in the elevator or use it for unauthorized purposes
Danger: Elevators are designed for transportation, not as seating areas. Using them for improper purposes can lead to injuries like crushing or shearing. -
Don’t jump or jostle in the elevator
Danger: Jumping or sudden movements could damage the elevator’s safety mechanisms, causing it to malfunction or trap passengers. -
Don’t grab the elevator doors
Danger: Grabbing the doors can cause serious accidents, such as injury from shearing. -
Don’t let children ride the elevator alone
Danger: Children may not understand how to operate the elevator correctly. If the elevator malfunctions, they could become trapped and be unable to get help.
